Description:
Second Chance explores how discarded furniture can become a resource for new design. I collect furniture found on the street and dismantle it into individual components. Every found furniture piece gets a specification number which is later on printed onto each individual component.
By analysing their form, function, connections and ornamentation, I create both a digital and physical archive of reusable elements. This archive becomes the foundation for designing new furniture, with each piece developing from a specific starting point such as a mechanism, connection, form, a story or aesthetic quality. Every final object includes a label documenting the origin of its components, their previous use, and the design process behind their transformation.
The Traceability of Sources, as well as the communication between the components become the central elements in this project.
